We are at the Xupes HQ in the backwoods edge of a quiet town in north London. This is our second meeting with Mickey, we are not just for a chinwag. The last time he mentioned the movement of Omega when studying the Rolex 3135. Well, we want a little deeper, this time, so we took three textbooks Omegas with us - three generations of crew: one of the old standard sort of caliber 1120; 2500 coaxial early planetary ocean; and the latest generation of the internal 8500 coaxial. These are the Omega Seamaster reference 2231.50.00, 2200.51.00 and 232.30.42.21.01.003 watches.

We are in his view of the evolution of the Omega movement since the turn of the millennium. We would like to use our own non-watchmaker eyes to see what the legendary coaxial caliber is and try to figure out whether it's like the Omega Tribe sermons to change the game. We had a window of time, only less than two hours to put them down and put them under the crosshair. Rolex is impressive, this is a real tough customer: it is not aimed at the same market with these brands. In the Rolex market, the popular mechanical watch market, it will always be a great time. Then, in my opinion, another fantastic contender must be Omega. Omega is clearly trying to go with the Rolex to the mind, in order to their fairness, they already have a good crack. Introduced in coaxial in 1999 is clearly their role for the top. So I think this seems to be a logical follow-up. High quality imitation luxury watches at deep discount!

The escapement is a smart little piece of kit; we'll look at it in a minute. Basically, it is a spinning wheel, with several club-shaped teeth, which are designed in such a way that they drive the fork back and forth. Each time the fork moves, the other end of it, or the handle, if you prefer, gives a small push to the balance wheel. This causes the balance wheel to move. The contact between the tooth and the tray is what makes the clock tick. This contact is one of the areas in which the movement consumes considerable amounts of energy. In the classic Swiss lever setting, the teeth slide along the prongs of the pallet, which causes friction or resistance; on the coaxial, although the teeth are only pointed ends of the push, there is less friction.
